ABOUT US
Design Hardware is a family-owned and client-focused business. Prior to opening Design Hardware, Avi Balsam and Nate Abramson worked in the financial industry for many years. Due to the absence of “customer-centered” companies in the hardware industry, Avi and Nate decided to open Design Hardware in the west Los Angeles area to offer an alternative to those businesses that put profit before people.
Design Hardware began exclusively as a residential supply business, catering to local needs and operating out of a retail store on Fairfax Avenue in 1985. After 12 years of building a successful network of customers and reputation within the commercial and residential construction industry, Design Hardware exceeded space limitations and moved into a large warehouse type structure at 6053 West 3rd Street in Los Angeles, CA.
Over the past 10 years, Design Hardware has partnered with a multitude of home owners, architects, interior designers, custom builders, general contractors and large construction companies to create beautiful custom homes, multi-unit and commercial projects with all the “finishing touches” that make a property sell, a “house into a home”, an unwanted space into a highly valued business.
Once again, Design Hardware is rebuilding our store to keep up with high customer demand for innovative design concepts and products. Our Showroom remodel will be finished at the end of December 2007 at which time Design Hardware will become a “Green Footprint”, having added rooftop drought-resistant plants, skylights, solar panel lighting and user-friendly, renewable product “walk-through” displays.

Design Hardware employees share over 200 collective years of specialized field and product knowledge in residential, commercial, industrial construction needs and “finish” design trends. Design Hardware takes pride in providing excellent customer service and breadth of industry and product knowledge. Over the past 22 years, Design Hardware has researched trends and kept “up-to-date” with regard to US and international product lines to accommodate design trends and every clients “finish” needs.
COMMERCIAL PROJECT PARTNERSHIPS
Design Hardware has partnered with respected builders such as Amoroso, Clark, Hensel-Phelps, Hunt, JA Jones, Keller, McCarthy, Morse-Diesel, Nielsen-Dillingham, OC America, RAS, Taisei, Thorpe, Turner, Tutor-Saliba-Perini, Swinerton and Webcore among others on medium-to-large projects of public interest ~ casinos, churches, college residence halls, Disney, hospitals, international destination hotels, LA County, laboratories, libraries, medical centers, shopping malls, the Egyptian Theater, as well as various projects for the University of California.
